Maybelline Color Show Vintage Leather

It's not often that I'm disappointed in nail polish. Even the trickiest formulas I'll put up with if the color is unique. But this collection has me down in the dumps, and that is where it belongs. Which is sad, because Maybelline Color Show is my favorite drugstore brand. They really dropped the ball on this one. There are 10 shades in this collection and I have 3 to show you today.

The Vintage Leather Collection is supposed to be Maybelline's answer to the textured trend. Sadly it falls very short. I'm going to address the formula first, before I show you the polishes. These are essentially matte creams with shredded flakies. IF they had left the flakies out and marketed these as Matte Shades, they would have had a huge success, because they are beautiful colors and the matte looks awesome. However the flakies jack everything up, they make it hard to apply, give it a strange only in certain areas texture, and don't match the rest of the polish. Have I bummed you out enough? Lets look at my 3 picks. Up first Antique Teal.

Next is Antique Teal with topcoat. Does that make it patent leather?

Next we have Classic Camel.

With topcoat.

And finally we have Plush Plum.

With topcoat.

I think top coat does help the polishes. It smoothes out the flakies and gives you a little dimension, which makes them feel more at home. Overall I love their color choices, but the formula is so god-awful that I can't in good conscious encourage you to buy these. Sad huh?

What do you think of these polishes?

Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee

  1. ICK on the formula. You are right in that these look awesome if only they had left them just as matte shades and not added those flakes. Shoulda, woulda, coulda...
