#31DC2015: Inspired by a Tutorial

Today for the #31DC2015 we had to be inspired by a tutorial. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do until I stumbled on this tutorial from Pshiit. She always has the best looks, so I decided to follow along and create my own version.

For my look I started with a base of Cirque Colors Memento Mori and KBShimmer How You Dune? Once that was dry I went in with Right Angle Nail Vinyls and several blue polishes to create the marbled look. Polishes include Cirque Colors Royal Hawaiian, ILNP Harbour Island, OPI Fly, and Cupcake Polish Et Tu, Brute? This is such an easy idea for a high impact look. I really love the way it turned out.

The final day is tomorrow, we have to honor nails we love!!

#31DC2015: Inspired by the Supernatural

Two more prompts left! Cue the happy dance! I'm almost done ya'll!

Today we had to be inspired by the Supernatural. 5 or 6 months ago I saw this post and was obsessed with the Frankenstein's monster stamp. So I ordered it online even though it was spring and I wouldn't be able to use it for ages. So when this prompt hit, I knew which stamp I wanted to use. I paired it with Literary Lacquers Avada Kedavra because green/gold matte glitter seemed like the perfect choice. Imagine my surprise when I pulled up the inspiration post to credit and she had used the same polish. I guess there was a reason why I wanted to use that glitter. ;-)  The base under Frankenstein's Monster is KBShimmer How You Dune? and he's filled in with China Glaze Shore Enuff. The stamping plate itself is from My Online Shop and is JR-22.

Tomorrow we have to follow a tutorial. YouTube here I come!

#31DC2015: Inspired by a Flag

The final countdown has begun. There is officially 3 days left of the #31DC2015 and I could not be more excited. I'm looking forward to a more normal schedule. ;-)

Today's prompt was Inspired by a Flag. I'm not going to lie, this one seems a little out of place with the rest of the prompts, but it is what it is. I really had no idea what I was going to do, but I decided to let my inner nerd flag fly for a bit and this is what you get. I chose to go with a flag from the show Firefly. If you don't know it....shame on you. Just kidding, but its fun and worth checking out. In the show there are two factions, one of them being the Independents (aka the Hero's side) so I chose to recreate that flag on my nails.

Since this is a space show, I started with a base of Serum No 5 Opposites Attract a black holo since it reminds me of those black hole pictures. I then freehanded my flag across two nails using China Glaze Shore Enuff, OPI I Just Can't Cope-acabana, and China Glaze Smoke and Ashes.

There you have it. Inspired by a flag nails. Tomorrow we're supposed to be inspired by the supernatural.

#31DC2015: Inspired by Artwork

Today's prompt for the #31DC2015 is Inspired by Art. I was struggling with what to do and was digging around in my drawers when I found these Mondrian inspired Aqua Nail Wraps. Fate reminded me that I had these so I felt like now was the time to use them. I paired them with Bear Pawlish Buried in the Garden because I really enjoyed the way the browns played off each other.

Tomorrow we're supposed to be inspired by a Flag. I need to start brainstorming because I have no idea what I'm going to do yet.

#31DC2015: Inspired by a Pattern and #StampingSaturday

Today marks the final double prompt I have to do. Woo Hoo! For the last time I'm combining #31DC2015 and #StampingSaturday. Today's prompt was Inspired by a pattern. While looking for something to do, I came across this goldfish pattern on Spoonflower. It's adorable so I decided to recreate it on my nails.

For this look I started with a base of OPI Gargantuan Green Grape. I then used the saran wrap technique to layer on OPI Can't Find My Czechbook. After that was dry I stamped on the wavy lines in Sinful Colors Snow Me White from Uber Chic 1-01.  Finally I freehanded on my little goldfish in OPI Can't Afjord Not To.

There you have it! Tomorrow is inspired by artwork. It also marks the beginning of the last five days.

#31DC2015: Inspired by Fashion

Today we're rocking inspired by fashion with the #31DC2015. I chose a  Christian Dior couture dress from 1949, which you can see below. In my head this was going to be awesome. However it didn't translate quite the way I wanted it to but, it's still fun.

“Junon”, fall/winter 1949-50
I started with a base of ILNP Clockwork and then went in with ILNP Mountain View to make the scallops. I then dotted on more Mountain View, Polish M Breezy Fall Days, and OPI DS Radiance. I think I should have made my scallops bigger, but it is what it is.

I'm starting to see the end in sight. Tomorrow is inspired by a pattern. Only 6 more days left.

#TheLacquerRing: Watermarble & #31DC2015: Inspired by a Book

It's another double prompt day and I think you all should be impressed that I managed to combine, once again, #TheLacquerRing and #31DC2015. The prompts included "water marble" (AGAIN, You've got to be Kidding Me!) and "Inspired by a Book."

So I've had this book, The Rainbow Goblins, since I was a kid. It was one of my favorites. Years ago when I first moved out on my own I was sad to find that my original copy was literally falling apart, which tells you how many times I read this thing. Not only is it a fun story (my Hubs disagrees, he thinks it's creepy) but the art is absolutely stunning. General gist of the story is that there are goblins who lasso rainbows and drink their colors, but the flowers foil them and you get some amazing (including water marbled) art.

For this look, I attempted to create the cover with a lasso'd rainbow on two of my fingers. I tried (there was much cursing and restarting) to mimic the water marbles on a few fingers and on my thumb I attempted to paint the Red Goblin.

And there you have it. My Rainbow Goblins nail art. If you are interesting in seeing some of the art from the book, you can do so here. Besides one more #StampingSaturday, this is the end of double prompts for me. Thank goodness. I can't wait till next month when we're back to normal. Tomorrow is inspired by fashion. I guess I'll have to spend my day looking at beautiful clothes. ;-)

I used mostly OPI for this look. The colors are in ROYGBIV My Paprika is Hotter Than Yours, Where Did Suzi's Man-go?, I Just Can't Cope-acabana, Jade is the New Black, Can't Find My Czechbook, Eurso...Euro, Do you Have this Color in Stock-holm?, French Quarter for Your Thoughts (grey). I also used Sinful Colors Snow Me White and Cirque Colors Memento Mori.

#31DC2015: Inspired by a Movie

Today's prompt for #31DC2015 is Inspired by a Movie. Everyone has those movies that even though you own them, if you are flipping through the channels you'll stop and watch, no matter what point it is at. The Harry Potter movies fall into that category for me. It doesn't matter which movie or what point it's at, I'll stop and watch.

So when I saw these fabulous nails from Steph Stone on Instagram, I knew I wanted to recreate those fun little faces. The gangs all here.

Like yesterday, I used a lot of polishes for these, I'll list them out for you below. If you have a question on a color, just shout. Tomorrow is inspired by a book! I have no idea what I want to do yet.

Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee

#31DC2015: Inspired By a Song

Today we're posting looks that are inspired by a song. I don't think there was any choice for me. My song of the summer has been Sunday Candy by Donnie Trumpet & the Social Experiment.

This song has been on repeat for me since it came out. It got better when Anna Kendrick sang the hook in an interview (LOVE ME SOME ANNA!). But the best part is that the incredibly talented Donnie Trumpet is my husband's cousin. The whole family is crazy proud of him and he's insanely talented. Not only do I recommend listening to this song if you don't know it, but check out the rest of the stuff he does with Chance.

So not only do I love the song, I love the sets in the music video, which was all done in one shot. How cool is that? I pulled all of my inspiration from the music video. On my thumb I did the Sunday Candy Marquee, next is the Social Experiment logo from their letterman jackets, middle is the candies on the wall, ring is Jamila Woods shirt/necklace/cardigan combo, and my pinky is the purple and white walls in the candy shop.

I used an insane amount of polish and acrylic paint for this look. I'll list them all out below. If you are curious about a color, just ask and I'm happy to help.

Thumb: OPI I Just Can't Cope-a-cabana, OPI A Oui Bit of Red, OPI Alpine Snow, KBShimmer Foiled

#31DC2015: Inspired by a Color

Today we're beginning the "inspired by" looks in the #31DC2015 challenge. We're supposed to be inspired by a color today, but I was having trouble choosing. So I asked my husband for help. Watching him gingerly dig through my polish drawers was hilarious. Eventually he landed on a glitter topper, Polish M At the Lake (formerly Lacquerlicious). So I took the polish he chose and rand with it. Since it's a beautiful blue glitter topper I chose a shimmery bright blue polish for the base. Urban Decay Chaos is a stunner. I can't believe it took me this long to use it.

I then went in with Polish M At the Lake as a topper on all nails. Once that was done I stamped on a shape (it went a bit cock-eyed but EHH!) on my middle finger from the MoYou London Holy Shapes 04 and Mundo de Unas Fiji.  I really like the end result.

That's where I ended up. Tomorrow is Inspired by a song. I've got a plan, we'll see where I end up.

Enjoy & Until next time, Amy Lee
