Daisy Chains

How's everyone on this fine day? I worked all weekend with not much of a break, but I did manage to sneak in a movie, Amy Shcumer's TrainWreck. I'm officially adding her to my celebrity best friend list. If you haven't seen it, hustle on over to a movie theater. One word....HILARIOUS! 

Today's look is a very simple one, but I really like it. I started off with a base of Model City Polish Vanilla Mint. This is a light green base filled with glitters in green, aqua, and turquoise. It's super pretty and the formula was great. 





Next I went in with my dotting tool and Sinful Colors Snow Me White to create some basic flower shapes. Finally I added center dots with Julie G Canary Islands.  There you have it....simple daisy chains! For how easy this look is, I really like the end result. 





Confession...I think a few of my daisy's look liked sunny side up eggs more than flowers, but oh well. Maybe I'll do a breakfast inspired mani someday!

JulieG Summer 2014 Cruise Collection & a Giveaway

Hey all! So I don't know about you, but I'm pretty excited because this is my 200th post! Whoo! I actually missed my blog birthday in February (it didn't even occur to me to pay attention) so I'm going to celebrate 200 posts instead. Today for your viewing pleasure I have the full JulieG Cruise Collection. Before we get into the pictures, the formula on all of these is great. 3 coats and no problems.

 Up first is Miami Beach, which is a medium toned coral. This color is really perfect for summer.


Canary Islands is a bright yellow. In low light it was actually a really close match to my ring, but it pops out in the sunlight. 

Old San Juan is a warm tangerine tone. I thought this color would be horrible on my skin tone, but ended up really liking it.


Tahiti is a soft minty green. This one had a subtle shimmer in the bottle, but it disappears on the nail, which I'm totally okay with.


Next we have Santorini. This is a gorgeous light blue that almost leans periwinkle in certain lighting. However, as someone who has been to Santorini, this is totally the wrong shade of blue to represent the island. You can see what I mean here.


Finally we have Rio de Janeiro. A berry purple polish that is really fun.

Do you need both? Texture Polish Dupes

Alright, so do y'all remember the other day when I did the Texture Glitter Stripe manicure? Well that brought to light two possible dupes that I had in the blue range. While I was comparing those I grabbed a few other polishes to compare for you as well. I have 5 comparisons for you today, count them 5! Lets get down to business.

Up first is Julie G Sleigh Ride and Zoya Liberty.


As far as I can tell these are exact dupes in color. The only difference is that Liberty is a much finer glitter so the feel is different. Both are huge stainers. Also the price point is very different. If you have one, you don't need both. 

Next we have OPI Jinx vs. Julie G Sugar Rush. 


Jinx is not quite as bright as Sugar Rush, as it has a brighter red base. Sugar Rush is a much chunkier glitter and has a more difficult formula. I'd say these two are similar but not the same. Personally, I prefer Jinx over Sugar Rush. 

Our third comparison is Zoya Carter vs. Julie G Sugar Plum Fairy. 


I thought these two would be much closer, until I got them next together. As you can see Zoya is a brighter purple glitter in a blackened base while Sugar Plum Fairy is more of a deep plum glitter in the same color base. I love them both and I'm so glad that I have them both. 

Now lets look at Julie G HoHoHo vs. Zoya Miranda. 


These two are very similar with small differences. HoHoHo is a bit of a brighter pink base with silver glitters. Miranda is a darker pink with golden glitters. Those are very minor differences that you can only see when you have your fingers right in fron of your eyeballs. From a distance they look exactly the same. Unless you're crazy (like me) you don't need both of these in your collection. 

Finally we have Julie G Blueberry Fizz vs. OPI Kiss Me at Midnight. 


In the bottle these two look very similar, but once you apply them they are different. Blueberry Fizz is a much lighter blue than Kiss Me at Midnight. Kiss Me at Midnight also has silver hexes that catch the light and make for a great finish. You probably don't need both, but OPI is the winner in my book here.

Whats a girl to do with 6 blue textured polishes...

Why combine them in nail art of course!!

Today I bring you textured stripes in shades of blue. This actually brought to light some possible dupes, so I'll be bringing you that post in the very near future.




In real life this mani was so much better. The shades of blue were much more noticeable  but my camera had troubles differentiating between the colors. 

I don't remember what order I went in but here is a list of all the polishes used. Julie G Blueberry Fizz, OPI Kiss Me at Midnight, Zoya Sunshine, OPI Tiffany Case, Julie G Sleigh Ride, and Zoya Liberty.

Julie G Holiday Frosted Gumdrops Collection

You might have seen on Facebook or Twitter that I recently got the entire Julie G Holiday Frosted Gumdrops Collection. I love their first collection, so naturally I wanted this in its entirety, and at $3.99 a pop, you can't go wrong.

The formula on all of these is stunning. 2 easy coats and they apply beautifully.




Ho Ho Ho is a pink leaning red polish.




Mistletoe is a sumptuous forest green. This one is by far my favorite. Look at it! It's so pretty!




Silver Bells is just that a straight up silver. However, the texture in this makes it awesome. 




Gift of Gold is an antique gold which when paired with the texture makes it beautiful. 




Sleigh Ride is a luscious rich royal blue. My gawd I love this one. 




Finally we have Sugar Plum Fairy. My pictures do not do this color justice. It's actually a much brighter  purple, but for some reason that wouldn't show on my camera. :-( 

Which one is your favorite? I love Mistletoe and Sleigh Ride.

Getting my texture on...

Hey Lovies! Today is supposed to be filled with storms and I'm spending my day dealing with my phone company. Sounds fun huh? It totally is. ;-) 

Today, I've got some fun textured gradient nails to show you. I've been intrigued by the idea of doing a gradient with the liquid sand finish every since I got my first one, so I finally decided to give it a try. 




For this look, I've used a base of OPI Honey Ryder (gold) and then sponged on the tips with Julie G's Rock Candy (teal). I really enjoyed this look and the texture of the polishes made doing this gradient super easy. 

What do you think of the textured polishes? Still awesome or are you over it? I'm in the "still awesome" group!

Sugar Rush & Crushed Candy

Today I have the last two colors from the Julie G Frosted Gumdrops collection for you.


Up first is Sugar Rush. This color is a orangey-red filled with gold sparkles. This one should have been called Hot Tamale, because holy wow...look at that color. At first I thought this color was going to be the exact same as OPI Liquid Sands Jinx. Turns out they are different though, so I get to love them both. Jinx is more red leaning, while this goes more towards the orange. 




Next we have Crushed Candy. If I had to pick a least favorite from this collection, it would be Crushed Candy. Something about the color just doesn't do it for me as much as the others. This purple color has the same large silver hex glitters and silver sheen that the other cool colors do. 




Application for both of these polishes was easy. I've done two thin coats for both and waited in between to minimize dragging. 

Overall, I really love this collection. I'm so happy that I took advantage of the Groupon. That was a big win for me. These polishes are wonderfully textured, have great colors, and wear easily.
