Polished Bookworms presents Gone Girls

So you may remember that I'm a member of the Polished Bookworms, a polish lovers book club. Each month we read a book that the group voted on and then create a mani based on that book. Want to join us next month, join the Facebook group here. We'll be reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

This month we read Gone Girl, and let me tell you it was a hard read for me. I just cannot get on board with either Amy or Nick as I think they are both scumbag weirdos. My mani is based off the moment when Nick discovers Amy is truly gone. The door has been left ominously open and Amy's precious indoor cat, Bleeker, is sitting on the stoop.

I did the whole mani in acrylic paints. I like the way the cat came out and the overgrown grass against the siding is good. But my door just didn't translate. It turned into a big red blob when topcoated. I did finish the whole mani in Revlon Matte Top Coat.

Be sure to check out all the other Gone Girl mani's linked below.

#StampingSaturday: Pyramids of Nefertiti

When I was growing up, I was obsessed with Egypt. I read every book in the library on the subject and I wanted to be an Egyptologist so bad. I wanted to find new pyramids and risk mummy's cursing me and frolic through the desert sands. Fast forward to today...I'd still gladly do all those things. It's still #1 on my travel destination and I love reading about the culture. So naturally, when there is a polish named after the beautiful Nefertiti, I had to have it.

This is Habit Cosmetics Nefertiti. This is a beautiful mocha creme filled with copper and gold shimmer. I absolutely love the shimmer in here, two easy coats gave me full coverage.

I wanted to use my Ancient Egypt stamping plate, but I couldn't find it cause I'm lame. So I used MoYou London Hipster 08 and Mundos de Unas Turquoise to stamp on some triangular shapes to represent the pyramids.

KBShimmer Purples

How is everyone doing on this fine Friday? Is it officially spring where you are? Spring keeps teasing us here on the East Coast. "Oh you like this sunshine...well how about a late March snow..muahahaha" Since it's still cold and rainy here with snow in the forecast, I'm wearing spring on my fingers.

For this skittle look, I've combined two KBShimmer Polishes Thistle Be the Day (lavender holo) and I'm So Sweet Pea (crelly) for this look. I like how the pale purples really compliment each other but the uniqueness of each polish shines through.

Which polish is your favorite? I don't think I can pick.

#TheLacquerRing: Negative Space

#TheLacquerRing is back with our second March look. As you may remember from previous months, we do a color prompt and an art prompt. Nicole has picks for March, her color choice was green and now her art prompt is Negative Spaces. I'm digging this art prompt because it's something I've never tried. Bravo Nics for a good pick!

For my look, I used the four neon holographic polishes from Cirque Colors. These are limited edition and exclusive to Nordstroms. I know they are restocked now and will be available through the end of May. If you love them, I'd hurry as supplies are limited. I've used Sun Dog (orange), PLUR (pink), Twilight (blue), and Flash (green) for this look. The formula on all of these are great and they are so much more HOLO in person, I just couldn't get a good shot without way too much glare.

I was inspired by this look from pshiiit. I really love hers in the graphic black and white.

Be sure to check out the other green looks from AmandaLesleyJessicaNicoleVoniFrosso, and Cynthia below.  I can't wait to see what everyone came up with.

#StampingSaturday: Timeless Vow & Chevrons

Hey all! #StampingSaturday has rolled around again. I love coming up with different looks every week for this special day. Are you a stamper? Did you know that you can join us every week. Just add your link to the link-up below, whether its a blog post or even an Instagram photo. You can even get the link code for your post.

So for this week, I started with ILNP Timeless Vow. This is from their new Spring/Summer collection and it's so freaking stunning! It's a soft sage green holographic polish filled with gold chrome flakies. I used three thin coats for the full coverage below.

Cannot get enough of those flakes in the polish. So pretty! Next I went in with MoYou London Fashionista Plate 04 and Mundo de Unas Iris. I also threw on a "love" nail charm, which for the life of me, I have no idea where I got.

Be sure to check out all the other stamped manis below. Or join in yourself!!

Cirque Hatch & NYFW

Hey all!! It's Friday Friday Friday! Weekend here I come. Do you all have any big plans for the weekend? No big plans here. Just relaxing with the hubs and pups.

Today I have a mani I did before the nubs happened. This is Cirque Colors Hatch from their new Awakening collection. Hatch is the perfect speckled white. It's so stunning but simple. I used two thin coats here for wonderful coverage.

I decided to add a little accent of Cirque NYFW. I like the combo of these colors, but I'm not happy with how I put them together here. My lines aren't great and I'm just not a fan. I think I'm going to revisit this combo with a different design.

What do you think of the side french? Yay or nay?

HPB Presents St. Paddys Day

I mentioned yesterday that I nubbenized and I wasn't kidding. Sometimes you just need to cut them off and let them grow back nice and strong. It's like cutting off all your hair. It feels freeing somehow. If you have to chop them off, the best polish to go with is a glitter bomb. So that's what I've done.

I wanted to join in on the Hobby Polish Bloggers link-up for March. The theme was obviously for St. Patrick's day. I started with Different Dimensions Luck & Leprechauns. This is a full coverage glitter filled with micro-glitter and multi chrome flakes. It runs light spring green in some lights, gold in others with flashes of magenta and emerald green. It's a stunner. I used three thin coats here.

I then went in with Mundo de Unas Green and Winstonia W105 to stamp on four leaf clovers.

And that's where I ended. Are you going to drink green beer and pinch people tomorrow or is St. Paddy's day just another day to you?

Glam Polish Pentacle

Happy Monday y'all! How was your weekend? I had a nice relaxing one with some thrown in family time, so you cannot beat that. I did nubbinize (lol) over the weekend, so don't get confused when you see different nail lengths on the blog over the next few weeks. I have some saved up manis and some that I'll do for challenges etc in between.

Up today is Glam Polish Pentacle! Glam Polish does the best full coverage glitters. I cannot get enough of them. Pentacle is a charcoal gray glitter bomb with some big hexes thrown into the mix. The holographic rainbows are to die for. This was three thin coats for full coverage. You could probably get away with two thicker ones.

What do you think?

#StampingSaturday: Soft Shades

I love bright, saturated colors. I think that's reflected in my love for polish. However, sometimes even I need a palate cleanser. This mani is just that. I've used all softer shades here and I'm so in love with the clean look. Remind me to do more stuff like this in the future, kay?

For my base I went with OPI Bubble Bath, a squishy sheer pale pink jelly. I used two coats and topped it with OPI Pirouette My Whistle.  Pirouette My Whistle is sooo pretty. It's a glitter topper filled with the perfect amount of silver and white micro glitter and white hexes. So pretty!

I then went in with Sinful Colors Snow Me White and stamped on a soft swirly design from MoYou London Pro Collection XL 20. The white on the pale shades is a beautiful combo.

What do you think of the soft shades, love or hate them? Speaking of love or hate....I'm trying out this new thing with macros. Love or hate them? Opinions? Ways to improve them?

Be sure to check out all the other ladies who created a stamped design for today too!

#TheLacquerRing: Green

March is here which means the #TheLacquerRing is back with our monthly posts. As you may remember from previous months, we do a color prompt and an art prompt. Nicole has picks for March and her color choice is Green. She said it was the natural choice since St. Paddy's is coming up.

My green polish of choice is KBShimmer's Get Clover It. It is a sheer emerald green jelly filled with gold micro glitters and big gold, green, and blue circle glitters. Three thin coats gave me full coverage, but it is still sheer enough to see some visible nail line.

For even more green, I decided to add some centered stripes of Illamasqua Omen. Omen is black light reactive, but I didn't have one handy so I was unable to show you the coolness. I feel like this ramped up the green factor to just the right amount.

Be sure to check out the other green looks from AmandaLesleyJessicaNicoleVoniFrosso, and Cynthia below.  I can't wait to see what everyone came up with.

Emily de Molly Soon

Spring is almost here y'all!! I can see it starting to creep it's way into NYC. The parks are starting to thaw and kids are coming out to play. People are jogging outside instead of holing up on treadmills in gyms. Coats are shrinking in size and hats, scarves, and gloves are going away. Heck...I even see it in my polish choice. I went through a huge grey polish phase this winter. I love the color, it's so chic and sleek.

Emily de Molly Soon still satisfies my grey loving heart, but it also brings in those bright spring/summer colors I'm craving. It's a grey jelly base filled with fuchsia, neon green, bright blue, and purple hex glitters in varying sizes. This is two thin coats for full coverage.

Are you ready for spring? I feel like everyone except the East Coast is getting warm weather already.
