#31DC2016: Violet
Tuesday, September 6, 2016
9/06/2016 04:10:00 PM
I'm going to keep day 6 short and sweet. Today is the violet prompt. I was looking for a violet flowers stamp, but it I didn't have one that worked. I still went with flowers, but it wasn't my original intended look. I started with a base of KBShimmer Lilac Dreams which is an OLD SCHOOL polish. I love it. Depending on the light, shifts slightly from a medium purple to a lovely shade of pink. There is holographic glitter in aqua blue and sliver add sparkle and shine while a scattering of micro black and silver glitter adds depth to the color.
I then used Mundo de Unas Violet and BPL-024 for a flowers that still let the glitter base show through.

#31DC2016: Red

All right ya'll. It is that time of the year again. I thought I wouldn't attempt it but the 31 Day Challenge has reeled me in again! Is anyone else going to play along? The first challenge is red, so I'm starting things off simple with a quick and easy swatch of the beautiful KBShimmer Chilly Pepper, a beautiful medium red creme. Sometimes a good red is all you need.
I'll see you tomorrow for orange nails.

Rainbow Nails with KBShimmer

Today I'm rocking a fun simple look. I need simple in my life with all the craziness I have going on lately. The kids theater show I've been working on like a mad woman, premiers today and talk about a time suck. Keep your fingers crossed that my kids remember all the lines. It's hard for fifth through eighth graders to put on a whole musical and they have worked so hard. I can't wait to see them in action!
For today's look, I went in with five of the KBShimmer Mega Flames polishes. Mega Flames is one of the finishes that KBShimmer makes and boy do they shine with rainbows. From Thumb to Pinky they are: Pink - Ripe for the Pink-ing, Orange - So Flameous, Yellow - Stalk Market, Green - Smells Like Green Spirit, and Blue - Set in Ocean. I just applied two easy coats on each nail and went about my way.
I was actually inspired to do this mani by my dear friend Lesley. I don't think she ever posted a full on pic of them, but peep at her photo with Jeffree Star and you can see them in action. Or just pop over for all her other cool mani's and pics.
Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee

#TheLacquerRing: Mandala
Thursday, January 28, 2016
1/28/2016 11:18:00 AM
I'm back today with the second #TheLacquerRing look for January. Today we're doing Mandala inspired looks. I'm excited to see how everyone interprets this prompt, so let's dive right in.
For my look, it was a multi-step process. First I started with a base of Stardust Polish Deep Space, which is a greyed out navy blue. This was streaky on the first coat, but build up nicely after two more.
Once Deep Space was dry, I randomly sponged on KBShimmer Aquamarine and Blue Topaz. I wasn't going for full coverage, more random splotches.
Finally I went in with Mundo de Unas Holland Blue and a MoYou London Kaleidoscope 06 for the final Mandala pattern. I really enjoy the combo of the blues and how they play together.
There you have it. Mandala inspired nails in shades of blue. Be sure to check out the other ladies looks below.

#StampingSaturday: Neutrals & Gold

11/28/2015 04:16:00 PM
I've missed the last couple of #StampingSaturday posts because I've been so busy, but I'm happy to be back. I love this little group who participates weekly, so I miss being among them on Saturdays.
Today I started with a base of KBShimmer Owl Miss You a soft beige base filled with gold and copper metallic flakes. It's so stunning, I almost left it alone. I used two easy coats for full coverage.
I then went in with Mundo de Unas Gold and an image from It Girl Nail Art IG-101. I really love how the image frames the base and the gold plays with the metallic tones in the base.
So there you have. Don't forget to join us in the link up below.

#31DC2015: Inspired by a Tutorial
Wednesday, September 30, 2015
9/30/2015 10:00:00 AM
Today for the #31DC2015 we had to be inspired by a tutorial. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do until I stumbled on this tutorial from Pshiit. She always has the best looks, so I decided to follow along and create my own version.
For my look I started with a base of Cirque Colors Memento Mori and KBShimmer How You Dune? Once that was dry I went in with Right Angle Nail Vinyls and several blue polishes to create the marbled look. Polishes include Cirque Colors Royal Hawaiian, ILNP Harbour Island, OPI Fly, and Cupcake Polish Et Tu, Brute? This is such an easy idea for a high impact look. I really love the way it turned out.
The final day is tomorrow, we have to honor nails we love!!

#31DC2015: Inspired by the Supernatural
Tuesday, September 29, 2015
9/29/2015 10:18:00 AM
Two more prompts left! Cue the happy dance! I'm almost done ya'll!
Today we had to be inspired by the Supernatural. 5 or 6 months ago I saw this post and was obsessed with the Frankenstein's monster stamp. So I ordered it online even though it was spring and I wouldn't be able to use it for ages. So when this prompt hit, I knew which stamp I wanted to use. I paired it with Literary Lacquers Avada Kedavra because green/gold matte glitter seemed like the perfect choice. Imagine my surprise when I pulled up the inspiration post to credit and she had used the same polish. I guess there was a reason why I wanted to use that glitter. ;-) The base under Frankenstein's Monster is KBShimmer How You Dune? and he's filled in with China Glaze Shore Enuff. The stamping plate itself is from My Online Shop and is JR-22.
Tomorrow we have to follow a tutorial. YouTube here I come!

#31DC2015: Watermarble
Sunday, September 20, 2015
9/20/2015 12:38:00 PM
So today the prompt for the #31DC2015 was my nail art arch nemesis. The dreaded water marble. If you follow me on Instagram you'll have seen one of my 729 epic fails yesterday. Ugh. The Nail Polish Overlords did not hear my plea. So finally I gave up and resorted to my old friend stamping for a cheated look!
This is OPI First Class Desires stamped with Mundo de Unas Bones via Bundle Monster BM-320. This was the only successful look I managed to pull off. I'm showing off a fail below, so check that out too.
Before I show you the fail, what do you think of my new nail shape? I did it on a whim, thinking I'll cut them down before long but I surprised myself. I really dig the ballerina shape.
Ok so the fail...the middle finger is the only attempt that came out decent. I used Glam Polish I'm Shore You Did as the base and the water marble was done with KBShimmer Teal it to My Heart and Soul Deep and a clear polish.
Next up we have inspired by a color. I'm starting to see the end of the light at the tunnel. Only 11 days left.
Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee

#31DC2015: Rainbow Nails
Wednesday, September 9, 2015
9/09/2015 10:54:00 PM
So I struggled with today's prompt for #31DC2015. We're supposed to do rainbow nails and I was exhausted last night, so I didn't want to stay up late doing crazy detailed nails. That's when I remembered the beauty that is KBShimmer Rainbow Shield. This is a LE flakie topper that literally shows off every color under the sun. I layered it over my favorite one coat black polish Cirque Colors Memento Mori. It occurred to me later that I should have used my matte top coat as well, but I wasn't thinking and missed out on that opportunity.
Whoomp, there it is! Today is short and sweet. Tomorrow I'm combining prompts again, so we'll see how it goes.
Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee

OPI ColorPaints Gradient
Friday, July 17, 2015
7/17/2015 12:10:00 PM
Sorry for the minor break in posting y'all! I had some technical difficulties with my camera not recognizing my memory card anymore. After some Googling, it turns out I wore it out. To much taking it in and out to get pics off for posts. Thankfully, I was able to get all my photos off no problem, but I couldn't get the camera to recognize it anymore. While I was dealing with that frustration, I had to be patient. BUT....solved and now I have new pretties to show you! WHOOP!
So I showed your KBShimmer Foiled the other day. While admiring it, I had a thought. It would be the perfect silver base to try out my new OPI ColorPaints mini-set. For this look, I used OPI ColorPaints Pen & Pink and OPI ColorPaints Purple Perspective. I wanted to try a gradient and it turned out very watercolor-ish. I started with a coat of Purple Perspective on the bottom 1/4 of my nail, then added another coat over that which went up about half way. I then switched to Pen & Pink, coating 3/4 of the nail and finally a second pass that covered the whole nail. For some reason the colors didn't give full opacity at the tip of each nail.
I really like the overall effect here. I can't wait to play with these some more. But here is my question...would anyone be interested in a tutorial video or photo of this? I'm thinking of branching out. Let me know!
Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee

Do You Need Both? - Metal Flakie Polish Dupes
Monday, July 13, 2015
7/13/2015 02:46:00 PM
It's been a long time since I've done a comparison post. A looooong time. I wore KBShimmer Foiled the other day and someone asked how it compared to Cirque Colors Mirror Mirror. I pulled them both out to compare and I pulled out a few other silver flake polishes that are similar as well. Today's line up includes the two already mentioned and F.U.N. Lacquer Pay Day (H), Literary Lacquer Felix Felicis, and F.U.N. Lacquer Pay Day. Please be aware that this is a picture heavy post, so there is a lot to get through, as I was pretty thorough. All polishes have been shown with three coats applied and topped with top coat.
Up first is KBShimmer Foiled vs. Literary Lacquer Felix Felicis. Foiled is the finest of the silver flake polishes. You get full coverage with this one in 2-3 coats and it is a beautiful silver color. Compared with Felix Felicis, you can see the FF is more gold toned with similar flake size but there are also bigger gold glass fleck flakes mixed in as well. These are most definitely not dupes.
Next we have F.U.N. Lacquer Pay Day vs. Cirque Colors Mirror Mirror. I totally thought these two would be dupes and they are in fact the closest out of all of them. My bottle of Pay Day is quite old, like original branding/bottle old, so I don't know if there was color bleed, but it is a silver flake polish in a slightly gold base for me. On the website, her pictures show it as a champagne. Mirror Mirror is large silver flakes in a clear base. The flake sizes here are spot on but the colors are slightly off. I'm guessing if I had a newer bottle of Pay Day, they'd be dupes. Which is good news as you can still purchase Pay Day.
Next we have the two Pay Days against each other. Pay Day (H) has the same flake size in a holographic base. Out of all the polishes this one reads the most silver. Pay Day reads gold in the tinted base.
KBShimmer Foiled vs. Cirque Colors Mirror Mirror. These two are similar in tone and finish, but as you can tell Foiled has much finer flakes that Mirror Mirror. Foiled is like Mirror Mirror's little sister.
F.U.N. Lacquer Pay Day (H) vs. Literary Lacquer Felix Felicis. These two aren't even close. The only similarity they have is that they both have other elements along with the metallic flakes.
KBShimmer Foiled vs. F.U.N. Lacquer Pay Day (H). These two are the most silver of the bunch. They have similar tone, but different flake sizes, not to mention Pay Day (H) has the holographic base.
KBShimmer Foiled vs. F.U.N. Lacquer Pay Day. These two aren't similar, you can tell they have a similar background, but that is as far as it goes.
F.U.N. Lacquer Pay Day (H) vs. Cirque Colors Mirror Mirror. These two have similar flake size but the bases are different. Pay Day (H)'s holographic base makes it read more silver while on Mirror Mirror the flakes in a clear base leans more platinum.
Literary Lacquer Felix Felicis vs. F.U.N. Lacquer Pay Day. I think these two are the most similar in color, as they are both the most gold out of the 5, but there are fundamental differences. Obviously Felix Felicis uses a much smaller flake size and the addition of the glass fleck takes it further away.
Finally we have Literary Lacquer Felix Felicis vs. Cirque Colors Mirror Mirror. Mirror Mirror has bigger flakes and reads more platinum, while Felix Felicis is much smaller flakes, gold, and has additional glass flecks.
So there you have it! Do you need all of them, probably not. The good news is that all of these, with the exception of Mirror Mirror are still available. If you missed out on Mirror Mirror's limited run, Pay Day is a good substitute. Other than that, I'm calling them all quite different. I'll leave all links to the polishes below.
Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee
