Blue Green Gradient or a Happy Accident

Sometimes I get an idea in my head, I'm really excited about it and then it doesn't pan out. However, it may lead to a happy accident. Thats the path that this manicure took. It started off with buying some new polish, and a new shirt. I was dead set on wearing a matching mani with the shirt and using those new polishes. So first up lets look at the two polishes I bought.

This is Essie First Timer from the Resort 2013 collection. I love this teal green color. Its right up my alley. The only beef I had with it was that when I removed it, it stained my skin. Gawd, I hate it when polish does that. Totally ruins all my fun.

Up next is Maybelline Color Show's Urban Utopia. This is from their LE 2013 collection, which I've only seen at Walgreens, but other places may have it as well. I really like this color, its a deep sea blue but still bright and fun. Love. This. Color.

So I started off wanting to do a gradient with First Timer, Urban Utopia, and MCS Tenacious Teal. Urban Utopia ended up being to light for the shirt I was trying to match, so I switched to Essie Butler Please for the blue. It worked better, but I felt like First Timer and Tenacious Teal were to close so the gradient looked off.  I did do an accent nail with stripes (ala the shirt) and loved the way it turned out with a base of Essie Beyond Cozy.

Here is the original mani with the shirt I was trying to match. I just loved the way the accent looked with the shirt, so I decided to remove the gradient and go in a bit of a different direction.

I ended up using Beyond Cozy on all my fingers and then replicating the accent nail with striping tape, First Timer, Butler Please, and Tenacious Teal on the thumb. I really loved the way this worked out. I felt like it matched the shirt and I felt super fancy wearing it out with the girls.

Do you ever want to match your clothes? Do you prefer the first or second look?

Enjoy & until next time,  Amy Lee

  1. I love happy accidents! I end up with some awesome manis that way ... I kind of have the opposite thought; I feel like I can't match the colors in my clothes and nails to exactly or it's like I'm trying too hard lol, but other times I have something so perfect I can't resist, like this time I had a black gold-spattered sweater and I put on Maybelline Twilight Rays with it ;D

    1. Sometimes I go a little overboard with new outfits, but its just so easy to when they translate so well into nailpolish. ;-) I can't help myself.

  2. I sometimes match my outfit for special occasions like weddings and stuff, but for the most part I never match. I don't know which one I like best. In a way I like the first one because I like the stripey gradient with the actual striped accent nails, but then I really like that glittery polish with the gold stripes over the green and blue. I think the second look barely edges out the first, but I really like them both. I love accent nails, especially really cute ones like this. :)

    1. I'm glad to hear that you liked both. For some reason the gradient just didn't do it for me. Maybe if I had been going to a more relaxed setting it would have been alright, but dancing with the girls needed more flash.
