The Itsy Bitsy Spider
Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Today I have a fun Halloween look, that has literally been on my fingers for the last 7 days. Life has been crazy y'all. But the good kind of crazy, busy busy busy! The base I used for this mani is Philly Loves Lacquer Bats are the Chicken of the Cave. This is a holographic glitter polish that is opaque in 3 coats. It is filled with black and silver glitters that when combined almost give it a charcoal look. This polish is stunning. I can't stop staring at it.
Once I had my base on, I took my thin striper brush and Maybelline Color Show Onxy Rush to draw on a little spider web on my middle finger. I then used the striper and a dotting tool to create my Itsy Bitsy Spider. This look is the perfect amount of fun but not over the top. I love the way it came out. Perfect for the Halloween season.
Have you been creating any fun Halloween looks? I'd love to see what you have been doing!
Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee

#TheLacquerRing: Inspired by Frosso
Thursday, October 23, 2014

Hey all TLR is back for October. Normally for our second prompt every month, we pick a theme. This month we are being inspired by our sweet friend Frosso from Lacquer Me Silly, so that is our theme. She recently announced her retirement from blogging, as life has gotten to busy and other things are taking priority. As a founding member of #TLR and #StampingSaturday she will be missed. However I think she might pop in from time to time on Instagram, because I just don't think she can go cold turkey. I've chosen to be inspired by one of Fross' Halloween manis. She's always had great Halloween mani's and one of my favorites is FrakenGlam.
For my base I started with China Glaze Running in Circles. I love this green. It's filled with tiny glitter that makes for a super shiny green.
Lets look at the side by side comparison of the original and my version, what do you think? Did I do Fross' original look justice?
For my base I started with China Glaze Running in Circles. I love this green. It's filled with tiny glitter that makes for a super shiny green.
I then used a small nail art brush and Maybelline Color Show Onxy Rush and Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Ivory Skull and freehanded the details on. FrakenGlam looked a little lonely though, so I gave him a friend aka Bride of FrakenGlam.
Don't forget to check out the looks the other ladies recreated below!

Slime Drips
Tuesday, October 21, 2014
10/21/2014 06:53:00 PM
Since it is Halloween time, I thought it would be fun to do slime nails. In my head this was going to be all oozy and drippy and look amazing. In reality it looks ok, kind of meh, but not terribly bad. I discoverd that I'm not great at slime nails. Maybe I just need more practice.
For a base I started out with Lacquerlicious Lemon Limeaid. This is a glitter topper that in 3 coats becomes opaque. I love how it looks on its own. Even though this is a summer polish, this is a perfect example of how polishes don't have to stay in their "appropriate season."
Once my base was dry I used a nail art brush and Maybelline Color Show in Onxy Rush to create the drips. I told you they weren't that great. Don't judge me based on my not so good drip painting skills, ok?
Have you been doing any fun Halloween looks lately? I'd love to see them! I have a few more coming up soon!
Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee

#TheLacquerRing: Gold
Thursday, September 11, 2014
9/11/2014 11:00:00 AM
#TheLacquerRing is back. This time the lovely Sibohan of For the Love of Nail Art had the pleasure of September picks. Since all of us know Sib well, it was no surprise when she announced that GOLD would be her color of choice. We don't call her the Gold Masta for nothing. ;-)
Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee
For my look I started off with a base of LVX Fantom, the perfect white. Seriously, love it so much. I then topped it with a generous coat of Nicole by OPI My Lips are Dripping Honey. This is a holographic gold hex glitter topper that screams Sibohan to me.
While that gold topper is pretty, it just wasn't enough. I needed to get mooooooore gold (Austin Powers anyone?) in this mani. I was inspired by this look from Pshiiit Polish, I went for a similar look in gold. I know she freehanded hers, but I did mine with two layers of striping tape. First I taped off the black chevron (Maybelline Color Show Onxy Rush) and then when that was dry added in the gold chevron (China Glaze Angel Wings).
So what do you think? I love the end result even if it does look a bit like CheerLeader Uniforms on crack. Don't forget to check out all the other gold mani's that Cynthia, Amanda, Lesley, Frosso, Jessica, Siobhan, and Nicole came up with as well. You can see their looks below.

Coral nails featuring KBShimmer
Tuesday, July 29, 2014
7/29/2014 03:52:00 PM
Everyone knows teal is my favorite color, but if I had to choose a second, it would be all shades coral. So when KBShimmer swatches of Let's Not Coral started showing up, I knew this gorgeous creme shade had to be mine.
This is 2 easy coats of Let's Not Coral. It applied beautifully!!! I wore this on it's own for a few days and then decided to spice it up a little bit.
I decided to turn Let's Not Coral into Pink Turquoise (FYI I don't think pink turquoise is real, but when you google it pictures show up). I lightly used saran wrap to dap on Maybelline Color Show Onxy Rush to create the veins. I then did one light coat of OPI Man with the Golden Gun, a 14K gold topper, to add that extra pop to the manicure.
I absolutely love the way this manicure came together. It was really fun to wear even if pink turquoise isn't a real thing.
Do you ever wear a plain color for a while then jazz it up after a couple of days?
Enjoy & until tomorrow, Amy Lee

Nail Potion #9: Tears of Mer

*this polish was provided to me for my honest review
I have been sitting on this post for a while, and let me tell you I could not be more excited about it. Recently Angela from Nail Potion #9 sent me her polish Tears of Mer to swatch & review. And OH HOLY CRAP do I LOVE this polish. Sorry things are exciting, and sometimes I need to shout my love for things. I can't control it. Warning, this is going to be a pic heavy post.
Angela has this beautiful description of her inspiration for the polish "Mer the common word for all the species, are a brave and noble race. They have at their disposal the entire ocean floor and they're quite content with just that....for now. It's said that while most races living under the deep blue have no use for tears the Mer are a passionate race. It's further said that a Mer's tears can burn the foulest and grouchiest mortal in the most emotional of people."
This polish looks like a vile of gypsy tears to me. It is so freaking pretty and sparkly. Tears of Mer has a blue jelly base packed with gold glitters and flakies that flash in the light. Have I mentioned that I love this polish yet, because I do.
This is one coat of Tears of Mer. It goes on very sheer, but the good news is it does build up nicely.
Here you see two coats, it's starting to get some good color. Man, look at that glitter. It is packed in there.
This is three coats of the polish.
And finally four. Keep in mind that I did very thin coats, so that I could see how the polish applied. I would guess that if you do 2 normal coats, you would also get to this level. After trying out the polish on bare nails, I was curious, to see how it look layered over other polishes.
Here I've done layered skittles, pinky is OPI Can't Find My Czechbook, ring is China Glaze Man Hunt, middle is Maybelline Color Show Shocking Seas, pointer is Maybelline Color Show Onyx Rush, and thumb is Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Ivory Skull. Each of these different "undies" brings out a different glow in the polish. Personally I really like it over the black polish, holy cow...the sparkle!
Here I've layered two coats of Tears of Mer over OPI Can't Find My Czechbook. CFMC turned out to be the perfect base and does this polish glow.
Overall, I am in LOOOOOOVE with this polish. Application was easy, the color is gorgeous, and it shines in the sunlight. Taking this polish off is similar to glitter, you've got to let the acetone soak for a moment, and then it is all good. I got a ton of compliments when I wore this polish. For my first experience with an indie brand, I couldn't have asked for a better one. Angela is a huge sweetheart and her polishes are beautiful and well made. Go check out her shop here. As for me I have Blood of Basilisk on my wish list.
Is this a polish you would wear?
Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee
