#ThePolishedBookworms: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

You may remember that I'm part of a little group called The Polished Bookworms. This is a group for polish lovers to get together read a fun book, discuss, and then do a mani inspired by the book. If this sounds like something you'd like, maybe you should join us. *hint hint*

Anyways, I was inspired by the book in so many ways. There were so many quotes that stuck out. I started with a base of Zoya Storm, which is obviously the best choice for a galaxy base ever!

I then used a bunch of polishes to create a galaxy look. Light blue is Zoya Rocky, dark blue is OPI Eurso Euro, also used were Orly After Party, and Morgan Taylor If the Slipper Fits. I then stamped on stars with Uber Chic 2-03 and Sinful Colors Snow Me White, topping it all off with China Glaze Fairy Dust.

Once my galaxy was done, I decided to pay tribute to the most integral part of the book. "Don't Panic" is the first thing every time you check the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. “I like the cover," he said. "Don't Panic. It's the first helpful or intelligible thing anybody's said to me all day.” - Arthur Dent.  The words were done with OPI This Gown Needs a Crown and Konad Black.

On my thumb I give you the answer to the question, the BIG question. “The Answer to the Great Question... Of Life, the Universe and Everything... Is... Forty-two,' said Deep Thought, with infinite majesty and calm.”

If you stuck it out this long, perhaps you'd like to take a peek at other ladies who did a Hitchhiker's Guide looks as well.

The Beauty Buffs: Lisa Frank Inspired

Recently I was invited to join a group called The Beauty Buffs, who do monthly blog posts. I'm really excited to be among their ranks and my first post with them is all about Lisa Frank. If you grew up in the early 90's you'll remember the days of Lisa Frank and Trapper Keepers. If you didn't or don't know what I'm talking about, get your butt to Google now! Those neon kittens/penguins/leopards/unicorns/etc were my jam in elementary school.

For my look, I created quite the mish mash look for you, but I love the way it looks. I'll list all products used at the end of the post. My base is silver holographic foil which I stamped the looks over!

Products used:
Thumb: Mundo de Unas Reddish, Uber Chic 1-03
Pointer: Konad Black, W101 (leopard print stamp), China Glaze TMI (pink), China Glaze Plur-ple, Floss Gloss Wet
Middle: Mundo de Unas Mexican Pink, Konad Black, BM307 (butterfly stamp), China Glaze I Herd That (glitter)
Ring: Konad Black, BM223 (tiger print stamp)
Pinky: Mundo de Unas Turquoise, pink circle studs, BM16 (flower stamp)
Base for everything is Ciate Holographic Silver foil with Dance Legend Glitter Off

Could these be more Lisa Frank in your face obnoxious, the answer is yes. But I really love the way this mish mash all comes together. Be sure to check out all the other ladies who did looks inspired by Lisa Frank!

#TheLacquerRing: Aztec

#TheLacquerRing is back for our second prompt of April! Woo! Can y'all believe it is almost May already? I feel like April completely disappeared and the days are blurring together its moving so fast. For April, Jess has picks. You may remember for our color post we all wore I Love Nailpolish Bikini Bottoms. For our design pick, we're doing Aztec Nails.

I'm totally in love with my Aztec Nails. They are so cool! I started off with a base of OPI How Great is Your Dane from the Nordic Collection.

I then used the saran wrap technique over the top of How Great is Your Dane with OPI You're So Vain-illa. I was going for sort of a rocky sandstone type look, but it reads more marble to me.

Then, I went in with MoYou Explorer Plate 01 (which is AZTEC traditional designs) and Konad black for the stamping. On my thumb, pointer, and pinky I stamped on some traditional designs. Across my middle and ring finger I stamped on an image of the Wind God. I took a teeny paint brush and Sinful Colors Snow Me White to add some definition to the image.

What do you think? I'm so pleased with how this turned out, especially the Wind God.

Be sure to check out how everyone else's Aztec Designs:  AmandaLesleyJessicaNicoleVoniFrosso, and Cynthia below.  I can't wait to see what everyone came up with.

#StampingSaturday: Painting the Roses Reddish

I'm living it up in Florida this weekend for a quick trip. I think I'll actually spend more time on a plane than in the state, but that's what I get for not being able to take a day off at the new job yet. So to take advantage of all the sunshine, I'm going to make this short and sweet.

Today for #StampingSaturday, I started with a base of Picture Polish LakoDom. This is a white jelly polish (it leans slightly grey) filled with scattered holographic particles. The color of the polish doesn't let the rainbows shine through much in pictures, but I promise they are there. My swatch is three thin coats for full coverage.

I then went in with Mundo de Unas Reddish and Uber Chic 1-02 to stamp on the roses pattern. MdU stamping polishes may smell like rancid gasoline, but gawd the color and crispness is to die for.

Be sure to check out all the other stamped manis below. Don't forget you can join us too!

A Flirty Kalediscope

I'm sneaky blogging at work today. Don't tell. ;-) I have such a fun look to show you, I couldn't wait to get home. I'm so in love with this pairing. This is Picture Polish Flirt and Lacquer Lust Kaleidoscope. Flirt is a fun bright magenta creme polish that gave full coverage in two coats. Kaleidoscope is a clear based glitter, that is fully opaque in three coats. It is packed with silver micro glitters, holographic dust, and translucent glitters that give it a really unique look.

I think this one might be added to my list of "polish everyone needs". Thanks go out to my sweet friend Annie, for gifting this to me!

Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee

Lacguer Lust Ultraviolet

Just a quicky post for tonight. It's late and I'm playing the "need to get so much stuff done before my weekend trip" game, so of course I'm procrastinating by writing a blog post. :-/

Today I have Lacquer Lust's Ultraviolet to show you. Ultraviolet is a stunning polish, I just can't get enough of it. This polish has a royal purple jelly base filled with multichrome flakies. This is three thin coats for full coverage.

Those flakies!!! I told you it was pretty. What do you think of this one? I love this take on the multichrome flakies!

Emily de Molly Folklore

How was everyone's Monday?  It was rainy and dreary here. Walking to work felt like battling a monsoon. The wind ripped my umbrella apart. I had a total Lucy moment as it got flipped inside out, collected water, and when I finally got it the right way again, all the water dumped out and hit me in the face. I was not a happy camper by the time I got to work. :-/

Because today was a bust, I'm going to show you this STUNNING polish. This is Emily de Molly Folklore. This is a turquoise based filled with turquoise micro glitters. This makes me want to run around and stick my fingers in all the well lit places so I can see the sparkle.

What do you think of this beauty? Yay or nay?

#StampingSaturday: Neon Flower

Saturday has come again and for the first time in like three weeks, I'm getting my post up on time. It's finally warm here and that calls for NEONS!!! I couldn't stop obsessing over a few of the neons from China Glaze's Electric Nights, so Cynthia was sweet and tracked them down for me.

I started off with China Glaze Treble Maker (green) on every nail except for my ring, which got China Glaze Dandy Lyin' Around. This green is everything y'all! It doesn't need white undies, covers wonderfully and looks plain awesome.

Today I tried my hand at some stamping decals, which is new to me. But...I'm really super pleased with these. I stamped the flower from Uber Chic 1-03 in Konad black. While it was on the stamper I filled it in with China Glaze Rose Among Thorns (neon pink) and China Glaze Plur-ple. I topcoated it and let it dry.

I then applied a coat of China Glaze Point Me to the Party over Dandy Lyin' Around, plopped on my decal, trimmed it down, topcoated and BAM! Cue me doing a happy dance and shoving my fingers in my hubs face while I yell about how awesome it is. He even agreed with me.

This may be my new favorite #StampingSaturday look yet. Have you tried stamping decals yet?

SugarPill Angel Cakes

At IMATS last weekend, SugarPill officially launched their new nail polish line. I had major grabby hands at their booth and had to rein myself in before I emptied my bank account. I chose to get two polishes from them and today I'm going to show you Angel Cakes.

Angel Cakes is a pinky-peach base that is strangely close to my skin tone. I didn't expect that at all, but it works. It's filled with glitters in mauve, pink, teal, and silver. I love the overall look of this, but I also feel like it isn't something super special and new. We've seen these crelly glitter filled polishes all over the place. This swatch is two thin coats topped with two coats of top coat for a smooth finish.

I wanted to accent Angel Cakes but I didn't want to cover it up, so I chose to polishes that matched some of the glitters, grabbed my striping tape, and went to town. I did simple stripes to add a punch of coordinating color. The teal is Jessica Dynamite Teal and the pink is Zoya Micky.

What do you think? Are you going to get any SugarPill polishes when the become available?

Guest Post from Amy of Amy Loves New Wave

You guys!! I'm so excited to bring you a special guest post from Amy of Amy Loves New Wave. Amy and I are crashing each others blogs today and bringing you a fun twinsie mani inspired by the same print. Y'all are going to freak out over how perfect hers is. She wins this round, next time I'm stepping up my game. ALOT! Enough chatter, I'm going to let Amy take it away.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Hello readers of Amy Lee! I'm Amy of AmyLovesNewWave, and I'm super excited to explore my fancy side as a guest on Amy's blog today!

Amy Lee and I decided to use the same print as inspiration for our guest posts on each other's blogs. Amy has a fantastic Pinterest board, full of fun, colorful prints to use as inspiration for nail art. I absolutely fell in love with this print, so I asked Amy if we could use it as our inspiration. I'm so glad she said yes right away, otherwise I'd have sent several undignified emails begging her to reconsider.

Here's the mani I put together using the inspiration print:

I used a white polish base (Wet N Wild's French White Creme) on my index and middle fingers, Sinful Colors' Sail La Vie on my ring finger, and Zoya's Sunshine on my pinky. The umbrella prints were all done with acrylic paint, and I topped everything except Sunshine with matte top coat.

My thanks go to Amy Lee for graciously allowing me to take over her blog today, and to all of you fancy people for reading this. Be sure to check out Amy's guest post on my blog today as well!

Thanks for reading!
Amy H.

#StampingSaturday with Formula X Alchemy

I missed Saturday by so much guys. I had a busy weekend Amanda and Frosso came to town for IMATs, If you follow me on Instagram, you can see our adventures from the weekend and then on Sunday we had friends over for dinner and the Game of Thrones premier. But in an effort to keep up, I'm posting my look late.

For the base of my look, I started with Formula X Alchemy. This polish is stunning. It's described as a "platinum infused mixed metal shimmer." It has an antique gold base, and I can see copper, blue, silver and pink shimmer in there. This polish is hard to describe. I'd call it a micro glitter, except the glitters are so fine, it's like the put micro glitter in a Ninja Bullit and chopped them up even finer. Two thin coats gave me this awesome coverage.

For the stamping I used Konad Black polish and MoYou London's Kaleidoscope 06. I really love how the stamp leaves just enough to still see the amazingness (spell check tells me amazingness isn't a real word, I disagree) of Alchemy underneath.

There you have it. My late look. What do you think? Don't you just love Alchemy? Be sure to check out the other stamped looks below and if you like to stamp, join us! We're here every Saturday!

Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee
