#31DC2016: Inspired by a Flag
Wednesday, September 28, 2016
9/28/2016 01:55:00 PM
Last year I really struggled with this prompt, but today I knew exactly what I wanted to happen. I grew up on boats and racing with my Dad, so when I was thinking about flags, nautical signaling flags popped into my head. These are the old school way of transferring messages between boats during the day. Each flag stands for a letter of the alphabet. I fit as many as I could onto my fingers.
To start, I went with a base of the ever gorgeous Native War Paints Cable Knit Sweater. Can we have a serious discussion about the shimmer in this polish? Talk about stunning.
I then went in with It Girl Nail Art Sapphire stamping polish and the plate IG-111 for the waves. I wanted to have a dark and stormy water feel, which is exactly what I got. I love it when a vision comes together.
Next I painted on the flags. The flags are made up of different combos of Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, and White. I went with Cirque Colors Rita (red), OPI I Just Can't Cope-acabana (yellow), Cirque Colors NYFW (blue), Painted Polish Midnight Mischief (black), and OPI Alpine Snow (white) for the flags.
What do you think? Could you talk to someone only using a flag alphabet?
Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee

#Crowned: KC Royals

Welcome to that moment where I geek out about the ROYALS winning the WORLD SERIES! Cheering on the KC Royals has been a part of my life as long as I can remember. I've been to more games in Kauffman Stadium than I can count. The last time they won a World Series I was barely four months old. Cut to last year, I live in NYC, can't go to any of the games, and I end up crying alone in a bar after work as we lost in game 7. I spent a year being sad about that but then the Royals came out this year hotter and stronger than last year. I cannot wait to clench and go to the show again. THEN....dun dun duuuuuh...the METS win and are in the show. Literally....my worst nightmare y'all. If I'm serious about Royals Baseball, my husband LIVES and BREATHES Mets Baseball. So now, you have two uber competitive people who do not joke around when it comes to their teams, married and those teams facing off in a Championship Series. This only ends good for one of us. I'm happy to report, that I came out on the good end of this one. THANK GOD! My husband not so much, but we weathered the storm and hopefully won't ever see this kind of match up again.
So long story short, I love Royals, my husband loves Mets, we got to go to NYC games, I saw my team win, BEST GAME EVER! This is what I wore on my nails, because of course I have to do something.
I used a complete batting lineup from Cirque Colors for my baseball mani. I was only going to use the glitters, but as I was searching for them I kept running into "oh this would go well" moments and the next thing I knew I had seven bottles on my desk ready to rock. The blue creme on my thumb/middle finger is NYFW, white is done with Carpe Diem, gold glitter is Helios, blue glitter is Lapis, gold holo in the crown is Rococo, the white for my baseball is City Lights, and the red for the laces is Rita. Everything is handpainted on these, so they aren't perfect, but I'm pretty damn proud of them.
Is anyone with me on #TeamRoyals? What's your favorite sport/team to watch?
Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee

Kate Spade Inspo: Pink and Red Stripes

If you know me in real life, you know that I'm obsessed with Kate Spade. I call her my girlfriend and if I only had to wear one brand of clothing for life, I'd go KS. So it was only a matter of time until I did a Kate Spade inspired look. In fact, I'm surprised it took me this long. I recently got a new phone case and well, this is where I ended up.
I started off with a base of Bear Pawlish Peek a Boo! This is my first time using a Bear Pawlish and let me tell you .... it won't be the last. The formula on this was FANTASTIC! It applied like butter and looks prettier. Peek a Boo! is a BRIGHT blue leaning pink holographic polish!
I then went in with Polished for Days Beach Towel Vinyls for the stripes and sponged on two thin coats of Cirque Colors Rita. Rita is quickly becoming my go to red, I use it for everything!
Voila! There you have it! My Kate Spade phone case mani! I'm totally in love with it! Even my hubs noticed and that is saying something. Are you ever inspired by a brand? I'd love to know who!
Enjoy & until next time, Amy Lee

#TheLacquerRing: Tokidoki Unicorns

Guys, I am the biggest turd. This post was supposed to be up last Friday, but I was so busy prepping and traveling for a wedding that it just didn't happen. I even had the nails done and the photos edited, I just couldn't get a free moment to sit down and write the post. Hopefully my girls will forgive me for being late.
Last year, Fross sent us all little Tokidoki unicorn charms. For #TLR, we are being inspired by those little guys. I received one named Pogo and he's totally a little bad ass. Covered in tattoos and band-aids, he's way cooler than I ever hope to be. I started with a base of Cirque Colors Cabana Capri . Next I went in with Kiko #265 and freehanded on some french tips. This totally reminded me of his little hooves, so I was a huge fan. I then drew on some details with Cirque Colors Memento Mori, Rita, Nolita Lolita, and Kiko #265 to represent different parts of Pogo's look. I adore the little skull and bones, but let's agree to pretend that the wing-a-lings which are terrible, didn't happen.
Be sure to check out all the other #TheLacquerRing Tokidoki Unicorns below! I love seeing how we each represented our Unicorn differently.

Cirque Colors Poolside Collection - Nordstrom Exclusive
Friday, May 29, 2015

I'm really excited to show you all this collection, so no chit chat, we're going to DIVE right in. Once again, Cirque Colors has paired with Nordstrom and their creative director Olivia Kim to create an exclusive collection just for the new Poolside Pop In collection. This limited edition release features a range of cool-toned colors accented with poppy hues for a touch of Hollywood glam. They will only be available for a limited time only, May 29th through June 28th. So lets check them out!
Up first is Julep one of two holos from this collection. Julep is a mint holographic polish that is so unique. I don't think I've got another one like this. I've used two thin coats for full coverage.
Next up is Santorini. This medium blue cobalt polish really brings to mind the Greek Island it's named for. I think I need to go back ASAP! This is a creme polish that applies evenly with two coats.
Next is the lone topper in this collection. This is Summer Soiree a pale pink and coral sprinkles topper. It looks positively patriotic shown over Santorini. One coat with no glitter placement was the perfect amount.
Rita is the pop of fiery color in this cool toned collection. A tomato red creme that leans a little to the orange side, Rita is bright! This is a perfect classic Hollywood red that applied a little sheer, so I used three thin coats for full coverage.
The next two colors I gave you a sneak peek at a few weeks ago. Up first is the sky blue creme Monte Carlo. I love this color it is really vibrant and applies easily in two coats.
The final holo in the collection is Cabana Capri, a baby blue filled with rainbows. This one was also semi sheer so I used three thin coats for full coverage.
I'm in love with this collection as a whole. I think Annie knocked it out of the park. Julep and Rita are my favorites. What are yours?
If you love these don't wait as they are only availble from May 29th to June 28th. You can find them online or the following 8 retail locations:
